James qualified as a solicitor in 2007, practicing exclusively as a duty solicitor and freelance advocate appearing in the Crown Court and Court of Appeal, before transferring to the Bar. 

A criminal defence specialist, James is an experienced trial advocate regularly defending in cases involving serious sexual offences, including rape and historical sexual abuse, serious violence and public disorder, firearms, drugs, dangerous dogs, fraud and money laundering.

James has particular expertise in representing mentally disordered defendants.

 

James’s advocacy experience also includes mental health tribunals, parole board hearings, adjudications, taxi licensing appeals, social security tribunals and county court trials.
